About - Our History
In 1988, Rob Hopp moved from Grand Rapids to Spring Lake, fulfilling a longtime dream of living near the lake shore. Rob quickly saw the need for a high quality automotive service company on the lake shore, and as a result, Automotive Advantage Import Services was started in November of 1990.
In May of 1991, our fledgeling shop took possession of our Ferrysburg location. Following extensive renovations, we moved in and continued to grow and expand our range of services.
After building our reputation over the next four years as the finest import auto service in the area, we shortened our name to Automotive Advantage to better reflect our expanded capabilities. We then began extensive employee training and equipment upgrades, along with adding specialty tooling to provide additional services for all makes and models of cars and light trucks.
In May of 2004, we acquired the distressed building at 1050 Fulton Avenue in Grand Haven. After extensive renovations, our operations were moved in and ready to serve customers on September 7, 2004.
After another successful four years, in late 2008 we began the transition to a new name which better reflects our philosophy: Cars For Keeps!
